i took them when i was 3
but i guess as long as they can stand and can understand
a lot of experts give advise on this now because everyone wants to raise the next tiger. They tend to say that you need to let the child develop a swing, then find a pro who will supervise them, with out trying to mold them into swinging a specific way. Cookie cutter swings don’t create great players. They need to form habits, a repeating swing, learn to putt a little, then have a pro help them discover the best way for them to play the game. Regaurdless to age, I would get the kid some clubs that fit, let them hit at the range and chip in the yard, learn to putt a little, and then and only then interview a few pros and find one who will agree to help them discover golf rather than try to mold their swing. When is the time to start lessons? when the child can hit similar shots repeatingly.

I want to take golf lessons and don’t know where i should get my starter set in washington, dc?
I’m 6′2 and when i have gone with friends to play the irons are to short for me. I’m not sure if I should just get fitted with a cheap set of clubs. Do i need clubs that match my height?
It would cetainly help if you were properly fitted. Its not only a case of height but the lie angle of the club heads would need to be correct as well.
As to the where? I’d go to a good golf store…..Golf Galaxy….Golf USA…..Austad’s……(to name a few) They will be able to fit you and offer suggestions as to what you need to buy.
And is is just one lesson or is it a series of lessons? Also can I rent clubs? How much?
Around $45 per lesson. Also, get your own clubs. If you’re starting out and not sure which clubs you prefer, start out with Acuity.

Is getting golf lessons from a "certified" golf instructor, not a "pro" worth it?
I’ve been looking at getting some golf lessons, but I dont know if I should go for a certified intructor, which is cheaper, or go for the pro.
It depends in what City you are in I guess , I have taken lessons from both types of Instructors , neither seemed better or worse , and it was money well spent.
There is an instructor at the driving range I go to that charges $200 for 6 lessons. The lessons take 45 mins to 1 hour. Good price or bad price? And is the price any reflection on how good he is?
well, it depends …. my coach charges me 60 dollars per lesson…his normal rate….and thats for one hour with video analysis…200 dollars for 6 lessons is one heckuva deal…but idk because if your teacher is offerin that kinda of deal…he may be desperate because of the lack of students.
the money does reflect the skill…but thats probably more true as the cost gets into the hundreds…aka hank haney for 500 dollars an hour sorta thing
good luck
and dont take all 6 at once..PLEASE
i would spread them out…maybe once a month…that way you get to practice and perfect what he/she tells you…i would say the lesssons should last you about 5 months at least. another tip: dont only practice your swing everytime…i would recommend 3-4 lessons on the swing and 1 one short game/bunker and definetly one on putting
good luck and keep the ball in the short grass.
A friend is left-handed and wants to take golf lessons. I think a good right-handed Pro is going to be just as helpful as a left handed Pro. Is there a difference?
I’m a lefty, but I took lessons from a right hander. It was actually easy because we stood facing each other, he could show me the right kind of swing and I just mirrored it.
It’s hard when you’re reading the golf magazines, they assume everyone is right handed so whenever they say "keep your left arm straight" you have to translate it to "keep your right arm straight" etc. But in person, it’s not so bad.
I’ve been playing golf for a few years now and have had one series of lessons, but am I still a high handicapper. I’ve been thinking about getting private lessons this time around. However, I recently got a new set of golf clubs as a present and I’m not sure they’re fitted correctly for me. I want to get a club fitting to see what kind of adjustments need to be made on the clubs. Which should I do first? The club fitting or the lessons?
Well, if you’re a high handicapper, chances are, your swing is not where it will be after taking lessons and improving. I’d take some lessons and work on your swing and then get the club adjusted. The pro you work with will also be able to give you an idea of where your clubs should be situated.
I’m going to take up a series of lessons (five 1hr sessions) for $300. what are reasonable expectations should I have from only 5 hrs of beginner lessons? Is it worth it or should I just pick up a book and head out to a driving range?
Lessons are the way to go. You will be shown the proper position of the hands on the club, ball placement, when to use what club. Some people can learn from a book and some can’t or maybe not as well.
